SCCA CCR Solo – Toys for Tots and Christmas Cheer

The Central Carolinas Region hosted a “Toys for Tots” charity autocross December 10th at Knight’s Stadium in Fort Mill, SC. While the competition was evident in many classes, there were also a lot of smiles, laughs and Christmas cheer.  Sgt. Gentry  of the United States Marine Corps was on hand to gratefully accept the many toys and cash donations made by drivers. This is becoming a well attended yearly event to benefit a worthy cause. As co-event Chair, A.J. Snyder said ” We are all children…just really big ones with expensive tastes.”

Drivers were treated with a Test n’ Tune structure for the event – drivers are required to work a predetermined shift during the day but they are free to run any of the other groups with only 4 officially declared runs.

The objectives of  the USMC Toys for Tots program are to  “help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to better communities in the future.” The program is headquartered in Virginia and was founded in 1947. This was a great way to end the season! Kudos to Rich Little, A.J. Snyder and Michael Licursi for managing and chairing events for the CCR Solo program in 2011.
